"Technology keepsakes": This research examines the role of technologies brought home by Hanoi families in the pre-reform era from Eastern Europe and Southern Vietnam and later turned into keepsakes that are said to 'have memories about' their owners.

"Modernity and quantification in socialist Vietnam": British Academy Post-doctoral Research Fellowship, Brunel University, West London (2002-2005). This project examined state efforts to curb ritual lavishness and their impact on temporal orientations and on relationships of urban dwellers to their native villages.
