November 16, 2017

On Tuesday, 14 November 2017 the Board of Trustees of the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology held its inaugural meeting, which was led by Secretary General of the MPS, Rüdiger Willems. Prof. Dr. Heiner Lück, a legal historian at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, was unanimously elected Chair of the board. Satenik Roth, Deputy Chair of the Federal Immigration and Integration Council (Bundeszuwanderungs- und Integrationsrats), was elected Vice Chair.

“We are delighted to welcome a renowned scholar like Professor Lück as the Chair of our Board of Trustees”, says Marie-Claire Foblets, Managing Director of the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology. Members of the Board of Trustees are appointed by the Max Planck Society for a term of six years; their role is to strengthen the relationship between the Institute and the public and foster the dissemination of and engagement with the Institute’s research. To this end, the Board is made up of leading figures from politics, business, and academia. “Because many of our more than 200 researchers come from abroad, the support of Ms. Roth is particularly important to us. Her long experience with integration issues makes her an invaluable contact for the Institute and its staff”, Marie-Claire Foblets concludes.
