Subject: Examining the consequences of limited statehood for the “rule of law” with a focus on the relationship between statutory law and non-state normative systems introduced by means of self-regulation.

Outcome: Publication of Studies on Rule of Law Concepts in (1) Islamic modeled States, (2) the Sudan, (3) Egypt, (4) Afghanistan. All four studies are published online in the series “Understandings of the Rule of Law in Various Legal Orders”.

Institution: Austrian Academy of Sciences (Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften) in Vienna (Austria):

Subject: Review, classification and cataloguing of Amharic, Arabic, Old-Ethiopic, Tigre and Tigrinya (un)published documents which were mostly collected and written down on the famous scientific Princeton University Expedition (1905) and the Deutsche-Aksum Expedition (1906) to Eritrea and Ethiopia.

Outcome: Archiving of the collection and report „Der Littmann-Nachlaß im Archiv der Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften“ in Tigre Studies in the 21 Century / Tigre Studien im 21. Jahrhundert (Studien zum Horn von Afrika, 2) ed. by Rainer Voigt, 2015.
