Profile 

Zhipeng Duan is a designer and researcher currently working as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology. His research and design practices are closely associated with the concept of the nearby. He has coordinated several initiatives in China and Germany that explore how people’s immediate surroundings, their nearby, can serve as critical resources for reflection and action in response to social challenges. Zhipeng received his PhD in design from the Oslo School of Architecture and Design. His doctoral research explored the situatedness of design and the forms and values of design in everyday life. In addition to his academic and design work, he is also an illustrator, with a particular interest in graphic novels and comics.
