Profile

Solange Guo Chatelard is a Ph.D candidate at the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris and an associate at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology in Halle/Saale, Germany. She specialises on local politics and everyday state formation in contemporary rural China and among the nascent Chinese community in Zambia, focusing in particular on the interplay between formal discourse, everyday practices, and cultural symbols in the formation and reproduction of the state at home and abroad. Her research is based on extensive fieldwork carried out in China and Zambia.
