The Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology and the Institute for Social and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Halle have organized a lecture series on the refugee crisis in Europe for this summer term. The lectures assemble speakers from Universities in Amsterdam, Berlin, Bochum, Chemnitz, Gothenburg, and Oxford, and take the audience to many of the sites where the refugee crisis has been produced, experienced, managed and contested over the past few years. On 12 April 2016, Heidrun Friese opens the lecture series with her talk on the “Limits of Hospitality”.
