Legal Dimensions of Social and Cultural Pluralism in Romania – working title

In her dissertation project, Frederike Nun studies pluralism and diversity in Romania in the context of the country’s membership in the European Union. In addition to analysing transformation processes since the integration of the country into the EU, she is investigating how diversity is understood in Romania, regulated by law, and negotiated in the legal system and in society more broadly. Nun therefore follows up on issues such as how lawyers and judges are trained to deal with diversity and how they apply and interpret law in this regard. It is not only legal actors who are involved in the mediation of these rights, however; NGOs and other actors in civil society are also players in these negotiation processes and are, therefore, important factors to be examined as part of this dissertation research.
