Profile
Born and grown up in Lecce (southern Italy), I started my academic career as a student of Japanese language and culture at the Istituto Universitario Orientale of Napoli. My first encounter with anthropology dates back to the years of my postgraduate research in Japan (1994-1998). I entered a MA in Cultural Anthropology at Hirosaki University. I undertook my first fieldwork in a postwar rural settlement situated in the northeastern part of Japan, Aomori. After the long Japanese experience I returned to Europe willing to learn the foundations of social anthropology and I entered the LSE for an MSc program. My interest for the postsocialist countries of Central Eastern Europe developed since this year of training in British anthropology and because I had occasion to enjoy frequent visits to Slovakia and to the Czech Republic.
