Sandra Calkins (Department ‘Integration and Conflict’) receives the young scholars award of the African Studies Association in Germany (VAD)
Sandra Calkins received the young scholars award of the African Studies Association in Germany (VAD) for her study “Who Knows Tomorrow? Uncertainty in North-Eastern Sudan.” The award ceremony took place at the biannual meeting of the VAD on July 21, 2016 in Berlin. The revised manuscript has meanwhile been published in the Berghahn Anthropology Series (February 2016). It is based on a dissertation that Calkins completed in June 2014 at Leipzig University. Every second year the VAD awards two or three outstanding master- and doctoral theses with the young scholar’s award.
