Elzyata Kuberlinova awarded scholarship from the Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation

lzyata Kuberlinova – a doctoral student in the international research school ANARCHIE, a cooperation between the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology and Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg – has won one of twelve PhD stipends funded by the Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation in 2018.

Elzyata Kuberlinova was awarded the one-year stipend in an international selection process; it supports her doctoral project on Kalmyk Buddhism in nineteenth-century Russia. The funding can be used for fieldwork, archival research, or writing up research results. We talked with Elzyata about the importance of this scholarship for her career.

First of all: congratulations on your success! Can you tell us why you decided to apply for funding from this foundation?
The Robert H.N. Ho Family Foundation supports research in the field of Buddhist studies. The Foundation offers grants for researchers at various stages of their careers. I was looking into funding opportunities that would allow me to finalise my PhD dissertation, and the Robert H.N. Ho Family Foundation struck me as a great match for my project.

What will you do with the scholarship?
The scholarship will be used for completing my dissertation. It will provide me with time to write up the remaining chapters and revise the final text.

And what is the title of your dissertation?
Religion and Empire: Kalmyk Buddhism in Late Imperial Russia
