Profile

Ameyu Godesso Roro taught Sociology at Jimma University until 2012. He received his BA in Sociology and Social Administration and MA in Sociology from Addis Ababa University. Currently, Ameyu is a PhD Candidate at Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology-IMPRS REMEP, Germany. His main research interest is interethnic relation, state, legal pluralism and social order combining anthropological, historical and sociological methods.

This Ph.D project was part of the ‘International Max Planck Research School on Retaliation, Mediation and Punishment’ (IMPRS-REMEP) following an interdisciplinary approach in:

Social anthropology – Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and MPI for Social Anthropology, Halle/Saale.
Criminology, international law – MPI for Foreign and International Criminal Law, Freiburg i.Br. and University of Freiburg
Legal history - MPI for European Legal History, Frankfurt/Main.
Public law - MPI for Comparative Public Law and International Law, Heidelberg (until 2012).

The overall research agenda of REMEP is to study the kind of different institutions and mechanisms with which social order and social control are negotiated, established and constructed in (post-) conflict societies.
