Abstract
The key concepts in modern anthropology like "difference" and "identity" are adressed in this book, highlighted by ethnographic evidence from various local places stretching from Morocco to Indonesia. Seeking to contribute to conflict theory, the book also discusses the antagonistic and destructive aspects of social identification. It provides elements of orientation in a world marked by a proliferation of ethnic movements and of manifestations which become more narrow and aggressive.
