Abstract
Based on an in-depth ethnographic investigation conducted in the western Indian town of Palghar, the book explores the emergence, functioning and (dis)continuity of small-scale enterprises, together with the historical and social processes that underlie them. It captures the multiplicity of values that become intertwined with the everyday workings of small-businesses and investigates how values and relationships of kinship and community influence economic decision-making.
