Discussing the different methods to securitize mobility
The securitization of mobility is, by definition, a myriad of operational processes instead of a single policy. It is carried out in multiple ways, and at different times of movements. In this instalment, Sverre Molland and Biao Xiang discuss how different methods produce different results. For instance, securitizing through certification of migrants may unintendedly encourage fabrication, increase burdens, and benefit commercial brokers, while the provision of direct assistance with transport can be beneficial for migrants but requires public resources.
